Principal's Welcome
Principal's Welcome

Dear Gaucho Family,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year at El Capitan High School! I could not be more excited about what lies ahead for our students, staff, and families. Each new school year brings new opportunities, and I truly believe this will be our best year yet.
At El Capitan, our maxims, Learn, Love, Lead, and Leave a Legacy, are more than words. They are the foundation of everything we do. We believe every student has the ability to achieve great things, and we are committed to helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally while creating memories that will last a lifetime. They are the Gaucho standard.
As part of Merced Union High School District, we remain focused on ensuring every student graduates with a diploma, a Career Technical Education (CTE) certification, and college credit. We will continue expanding opportunities for students to earn industry-recognized certifications, complete college coursework, and challenge themselves academically so they are prepared for success in college, careers, military service, or whatever path they choose after graduation.
While academic excellence remains our priority, we also believe high school should be an unforgettable experience. We encourage every Gaucho to get involved, build meaningful relationships, attend school events, compete, perform, serve, and create lasting memories. Success is about more than grades; it is about discovering passions, developing character, and enjoying the journey.
Our dedicated staff is committed to supporting every student by providing engaging instruction, meaningful opportunities, and a caring environment where all students can thrive. Together, we will continue building a culture where students are challenged, supported, celebrated, and inspired to become the very best version of themselves.
As we begin this exciting new school year, I leave you with this reminder from educator and author Rita Pierson:
*“Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists they become the best they can possibly be.”
Your proud Principal,
Megan Cope-Campilongo
